Katsushika HOKUSAI

Hokusai is considered to have been one of the great masters of Japanese woodblock print art (ukiyo-e). He lived and worked in the Edo period, and was active as a painter and printmaker. The series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, which includes the iconic print The Great Wave off Kanagawa, is probably his most famous art. Hokusai was instrumental in developing ukiyo-e from a style of portraiture largely focused on courtesans and actors into a much broader style of art that focused on landscapes, plants, and animals.

"Chirimen" has a peculiar rough surface and is very easy to fold. It is the classic material used for Japanese furoshiki. Made from 100% rayon, it has a silky feel. Dry cleaning only.

Yamada sen-i was established in 1937 as a manufacturer of furoshiki. The company's furoshiki brand is “MUSUBI” which is derived from from “born(生す/musu)” and “beauty(美/bi)” in Japanese. “MUSUBI” also means “a knot” and “to tie”.
