ORIGIN & CONCEPT
In 2007, Hasegawa Kogyo, a specialist ladder manufacturer, decided to address the issue of stepladders that either needed to be hidden away, or were difficult to store.
The resulting Lucano range has the following features:
- With a one-touch folding mechanism, the ladders are easy to carry around and open or close with just one hand, without fingers being caught.
- The self-standing design allows the stepladder to be placed anywhere when not in use and it blends in seamlessly like a piece of furniture or art.
- From the classic range of vibrant colours to modern muted tones, there is a ladder for every space - either to blend in or become an accent piece.
- The 3-Step and 4-Step models have a top handrail to assist with balance The steps are non-slip and wide enough to be comfortable.
Hasegawa Kogyo has three factories in Japan, one in China and one in Vietnam. The Lucano range of ladders are manufactured at the China factory.

Hasegawa Shoji was founded in Fukushima-ku, Osaka City in 1956. The company started by selling steel pipe ladders and stepladders, as well as portable scaffolding equipment for construction work. Its first product was a steel tubular stepladder, called the E-type. It has continued to innovate with new products and ladder designs every decade, like with the introduction of the Lucano range in 2007.
The Hasegawa Kogyo commitment to quality includes the manufacturing and rigorous testing of multiple prototypes before a product is launched. Hasegawa always focuses on comfort, ease of use, design and strength when developing a product. Ladders are extensively tested on-site, and not just using test data as indicators, to ensure they work well in real-life situations.
