Bamboo Water Ladle

Bamboo hishaku (water ladle) used during the Japanese tea ceremony. This is a furo style ladle, used with a portable brazier when heating water.

Suikaen Yasaburo Tanimura is a 26th generation company that makes  Takayama chasen and other bamboo tea utensils. It is named after the town of Takayama in Nara Prefecture, which is renowned for the manufacturing of premium hand crafted whisks since the middle of the Muromachi period (1336-1573).  

The ladle is packaged in a cardboard box. It can be cleaned in warm water without soap and is typically placed face up after dry.
